Q1.How many credit cards belonging to you do you currently have? (SA)
Q2.Among those credit cards in Q1, how many credit cards are you actually using? (SA)

The number of credit-cards they have, and of them, how many credit-cards they are actually using. (N=120)
First of all, responding to the question asking how many credit- cards they have, the majority of people answered “1” or ”2”, and each occupied 25.4 percent of the pie. The number of people who answered “3 or less” reached 72.1 percent overall. Also, the average number of credit-cards owned, were 2.76 per each person.
Secondly, responding to the question asking how many of these credit- cards they are using,
67.9 percent of people answered “1”, followed by “2” which were 24.6 percent of all. The average number of credit- cards they are actually using was 1.45.

In the chart, 4 points are given to people answering “Quite often”, 3 for “Sometimes”, 2 for “Seldom”, and 1 for “Never”. Responding to the question on how often they use their credit- cards , “Shopping” and ”On-line shopping” have respectively received the score point 3 or more.Both of the “ETC toll road payment” and ”For borrowing cash” have only scored 2 points or less, which shows that just a limited type of people are using credit-cards for those purposes.


Q4.How old were you when you got a credit card for the first time and what was the credit card company?(SA)

Responding the question asking the age they got a credit-card for the first time, 53.3 percent of respondents answered “Between 20 and 24 years old”, occupying more than half of all the respondents. It raises up to slightly over 80 percent when it includes the group of people aged 29 or under.
The average age that people generally got their credit- card for the first time was 23.8 yrs. old and the majority got their first credit-card from Marui and Saison.


Q5.In terms of Q4, please tell us the reason why you decided to get your credit card at that time? (MA)

Responding to the question why they decided to get a credit card, the top 3 were as follows: the largest number of 24.2 percent of people answered “To get a discount when shopping and receiving services”, followed by 22.5 percent answering “To use when traveling overseas”, and then 20.4 percent responded “For earning points, which are redeemable for various goods and service”.


Q6. If you get a new credit card, what kind of function, usage or benefit would you expect from it? Please describe them specifically. If you have no particular preference, please state “None”. (FA)

  • In addition to the function as travel insurance, it is great if it can be used as insurance for ordinary life. (Male/ 20’s)
  • Safety function such as anti-scamming function (Male/30’s)
  • To be able to confirm the statement or/and transaction history when using it (on request) (Male/40’s)
  • Including hospitalization insurance (Male/50’s)
  • Credit card with lovely character designs on it (Female/20’s)
  • Being able to use without a sign. Can be used as a train pass. Function to save money. (Female/30’s)
  • Gold card which gives a card holder a higher priority such as not to have to stand in a checkout line (Female/40’s)
  • Card points can be carried over without any limitation of time. Card holders can purchase goods and services by using earned points and cash (Female/50’s)
